Electrical and electronic engineering underpins modern life, from communications and power distribution to healthcare.

This BEng (Hons) Electrical and Electronic Engineering* degree equips you to develop and maintain technologies in a rapidly evolving world. With strong demand for engineers, the course blends academic study with practical design experience, building the technical and personal skills needed for a professional career.

The three-year course is subject to reaccreditation by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) with Partial Chartered Engineering (CEng) status. Please note the one-year top-up course is not IET accredited.

Teaching

Our teaching is varied, interactive, and designed to bring your learning to life. You’ll take part in a blend of on-campus and live online lectures, tutorials, and academic support sessions, supported by a wealth of digital learning materials including lecture notes, recordings, and presentations. You’ll also have full access to our extensive on-campus and online libraries.

Independent study is a key part of your development. Outside of taught sessions, you’ll expand your knowledge through research, wider reading, and by preparing reports, presentations, and projects that apply theory to real-world scenarios.

Assessment

Assessment is focused on practical, career-relevant coursework. 

You’ll complete tasks that reflect real workplace challenges - both individually and as part of a team. Assignments may include essays, reports, research and consultancy projects, group presentations, and the creation of digital materials - all designed to build the professional skills and confidence employers value most.

Entry and Visa Requirements

Entry Requirements

You are expected to hold at least one of the following:

  • UCAS points: 112
  • Three A-Levels with grades BBC
  • A BTEC Level 3 qualification in a related subject
  • Foundation Diploma 
  • Higher National Certificate (120 credits)
  • An Access to Higher Education Diploma awarded by a recognised institution
  • A UK or international equivalent of any of the above.

Additional Requirements

You should also hold at least one of the following:

  • Maths and English Language GCSEs at grade C / 4 or above (equivalent qualifications, such as Key Skills or a Higher Diploma, are also accepted)
  • Functional Skills Level 2 (Maths and English)
  • IELTS: 6.0 (or equivalent).

If you do not hold any of the above, you will be required to successfully complete an English and/or Maths test at The London College.

Year 2 Direct Entry

You are expected to hold at least one of the following:

  • Successfully completed your first year (Level 4) in similar programme at an approved university
  • Higher National Certificate (120 credits)
  • A UK or international equivalent of any of the above.

Year 3 Direct Entry

You are expected to hold at least one of the following:

  • Successfully completed your second year (Level 5) in similar programme at an approved university
  • Higher National Diploma (240 credits)
  • A UK or international equivalent of any of the above.

Immigration / Visa Requirements

You must hold one of the following:

  • UK or Irish citizenship
  • EU Settled or Pre-Settled Status
  • Non-EU passport with ILR, LLR, or DLR
  • Valid work visa  (additional  residency and  immigration requirements apply)
  • Refugee status, or be the child or spouse of someone with refugee status
  • Humanitarian Protection.
